项目摘要

(意義)国際社会の目標である「飢餓半減」「生物多様性の保全」というマクロな視野に立ち, わが国とアフリカ諸国との間に介在する国際開発に関する諸問題の解決に向けて, アフリカの農村開発における事例を通して, ミクロな視点から分析を行う.(重要性)今後の国際開発分野における新たな研究手法の開発としても本研究の成果が期待される.(研究の目的)広義には近年国際的な注目を集めているアフリカの農村開発における果樹栽培の位置づけを明らかにすることである.(具体的な内容)果樹を地域資源として活用しているマラウイ南部州の低地におけるカンキツ類栽培を中心に, 高地における温帯果樹栽培の台木利用を調査事例として取り上げた.南部アフリカに位置するマラウイでは, 政府が新たな換金作物として果樹栽培に注目してきた. 改良品種の導入に伴い, 技術移転等の支援を受けて農村地域で果樹栽培が推進された. 改良品種の導入は, 農業研究機関・普及所によって積極的に実施され, 先駆的農家は大規模な果樹栽培および苗木生産を実践している. 本研究では, マラウイ南部州でカンキツ類「既存品種」のタンジェリンの栽培を継続する農家と中部高地のモモとリンゴ「既存品種」に注目した.国際的には改良品種の導入・栽培が主流である中, 「既存品種」の果実販売・流通に加え, 台木として活用した改良品種を導入によって, 苗木生産を行う先進的な果樹農家や農民組織現地NGOやICRAFの活動事例に焦点を当て現地調査を行った. 現地調査では, 社会学の手法(エピソード・インタビュー)に基づく聞き取り中心の調査を行い, 研究成果として投稿論文を執筆した。
