项目摘要

本研究の目的は, 乳児における時間概念の発達について調べることである。従来の研究では, 課題をさせた時の判断理由に焦点を当てていたため, 言葉を話せない子どもは研究の対象から外されていた。そこで, 申請者は乳児でも実験可能な課題を提案・作成し, 乳児における時間概念の発達の解明を試みている。本年度は, 昨年度の実験結果を基に, さらに2つの実験を行った。実験1 : 前年度に作成した課題を修正し, 乳児が作業量と作業に必要な時間を対応づけているか再度検討した。具体的には, 離散している多数のブロックが極めて短い時間で組み上がる映像と相応の時間で組み上がる映像の2種類を呈示し, 乳児の注視時間を比較した。本実験から, 短時間でブロックが組み上がった映像の注視時間がもう一方の映像よりも長いことが明らかとなった。この結果は, 生後約1年未満で作業量に応じた作業時間を見積もつている可能性を示唆した。実験2 : 実験1の結果が頑健なものであるかを検討するための実験を行った。具体的には, 離散している数個のブロックを長時間かけて組み上がる映像と短時間で組み上げる映像を用いた。本実験から, 数個ブロックを長い時間かけて組み上げた映像の注視時間がもう一方の映像よりも長いことが明らかとなった。以上の実験から, 乳児は作業時間と作業量を対応づけていることが示唆された。これらの研究から, これまで不可能だった乳児の時間概念発達について新しい知見をもたらすことが期待される。
