本年度は前年度に引き続き、横穴式石室・横穴墓の現地踏査に基づく遺跡の立地・遺構の形態等の観察・記録と、発掘調査報告書を用いたデータ集成を行った。そして、これに基づく各地域の墓の比較分析を行い、その構造等の類似関係の検討から墓に関する情報がどのように伝達されたのかを明らかにした。検討の結果、①古代国家成立期の日本列島には、横穴墓の被葬者同士の情報伝達ネットワークのみでなく、上位層を含めた階層間の情報共有がなされる場合があったということ、②地域間の情報伝達に関しては、②-1. 比較的近距離の場合は墓そのものの細部構造まで共有されることから、人の行き来があったと考えられるが、②-2. 遠距離間では伝達の過程で情報の変容が認められることから、地域間で直接の人の行き来があったとは考えにくいということが明らかになった。総合すると、当該期の全国的な墓構造の類似現象は、それぞれ異なる背景をもつ複雑なネットワークの存在によって生じていたといえる。さらに、これらの考古資料から得られたモデルを、文献史研究から明らかにされている当該期の政治組織等や文献に記載されている氏の名称の分布と対比し、前述のネットワークの具体像について考察した。その結果、前出①では、大型古墳に埋葬された「国造」あるいは「伴造」といった地方の上位層から、横穴墓などの群集墳に埋葬された「部民」あるいはその集団を束ねる「トモ」などへという情報の伝達が存在していたこと、②のうち特に②-2では、地方から中央に「トモ」という形で出仕した人物が「ウジ」ごとに編成され実際の職務にあたるという機会を通じてウジ(氏)内で共有された葬送儀礼や造墓に関する情報が地方に持ち帰られて情報が共有されたと考えた。このように、当該期の墓の構造等の類似現象の背景には、地域間・階層間にわたって多元的かつ複雑にめぐらされたネットワークが存在しており、かつ、それは当該期のヤマト政権による地方支配体制を反映したものであったことが解明された。
