项目摘要

2014年度は、20世紀前半の中国における医学の近代化の構造を明らかにすることを目指した。具体的には、中国医学の大型病院・蘇州国医医院（1939～1941年）の事例を基に、中国の近代性に関する新しいモデルを模索した。上記の課題について、第一に、近代化を目指した中国医学の医師が、社会の主体である患者と疾病と、いかに相互作用して施療・受療行為が成り立っていたかにアプローチした。具体的には、開院から半年間に来院した患者の入院日数・主訴・診断・処方・転帰など詳細な治療記録を分析した。それを通して、この病院のマニフェストと現実の乖離、その乖離の理由、そして中医師の「近代的」治療と、患者のニーズ・患者の身体観との距離等を明らかにした。第二に、従来の研究で見落とされがちであった、中国医学の変容に結びつく日本の役割について検証した。とりわけ、日本漢方医と蘇州国医医院の中医師たちが同業者として、団体次元でどのような思想・技術の交流を行っていたかを考察した。以上の点より、中国医学の近代化とは、日本・欧米・中国それぞれにおける医療システムの要素を組み合わせたものであり、また医療の実践とは、生活の近代化に伴う人々の医文化・身体経験の変化に対応したものであったことを、指摘した。この視点は、後の中国の医療制度と近代化との関係性を理解するうえでも、きわめて重要である。これらの分析を『東洋学報』に投稿するための論文も、ほぼ完成している。また、この研究調査の過程において、医学史におけるアーカイブズ活用の効果と現状の課題について、小文をまとめ、日本科学史学会生物学史分科会にて口頭発表を行い、後に同学会学術誌に投稿し掲載された。この他に、近代日本の赤痢に対する公衆衛生に、伝統の食養生の概念が大きく関わっている点について、論考をまとめ、現在、学術雑誌Medical Historyに投稿中である。
