Basic research of Korean language education using movies and TV dramas

This project adopts an empirical approach to investigating the effect of the use of movies and TV dramas as teaching materials in Korean language education and aims to develop more effective methods of teaching the language. During the three year research period, we developed four teaching materials based on two types of learning models. Using these in six classes, we collected the data from 141 students regarding the learning effect. Compared to the control group, the classes using the movie/TV drama materials show remarkable improvements in listening skills. The data also reveal that more learners have subjective impressions that their language skills have improved. Further, these materials have the effect on students to maintain their motivation for learning the Korean language.
