本研究は、近代日本の心性、ポピュラーカルチャーの理解を通して、社会文化史の知見を広げる目的のために、近代日本で生まれた語り物・オーラルナラティブである浪花節（浪曲）の詳細な分析を行った。浪花節の語りにおける、テクストの常套表現と節の旋律型を検出してその機能を探り、音楽および言語テクスト両面での規範性と流動性を明らかにし、口頭性と書記性を検証しつつ、浪花節に表現されている一般庶民の声、さらにはナショナリズムを明らかにした。最終年度である平成25年度は、初年度に構築した研究の基盤・ネットワークを元に研究をより発展させた。2013年5月18日、19日の二日間に渡り、東京工業大学において「浪花節：近代日本の語り物」と題したシンポジウムを企画運営した。これは国内外においても、今までにない大きな規模での学術分野と芸能分野が協力しあって行われた、分野横断的な浪花節シンポジウムである。国内のみならずアメリカやデンマークを始めとする海外の研究者からの発表申し込みが多数集まった結果、国際的な学術シンポジウムとして、多角的な視点を持った研究発表が行われた。また浪花節は伝統芸能としての形態のみならず、ポピュラーカルチャーとしての存在意義も持つために、多くの現役の浪曲師がシンポジウムに参加したことにより、より実践的な意見交換が行われた。また、採譜した音楽資料を元に音楽分析を行い、旋律型・曲節の検出、その機能の解明を行い、また浪花節の置かれている社会的側面、およびテクストの詳細な読解によって、文学的立場からの浪花節の意義について分析を行った。これらシンポジウム、及び音楽分析、テキストの詳細な解読で得られた研究結果は図書、論文の出版をもって発表された。
