项目摘要

平成24年度と平成25年度の調査研究からは、以下のような知見を得ている。１）古代から近世における名所の生成と変容は、「場所及び場所性(境界性〔聖域性〕・景観)のコスモロジカルな把握」→「シンボリズムの成立（名所化）」→「シンボリズムに対応する名所巡りの成立」→「名所巡りの民衆化」という歴史的・継起的過程として辿ることができる。２）近世における「名所の民衆化」、即ち名所が民衆にも開かれた公共的文化空間として顕現する場合に、公権力の関与を考える必要があり、紀州藩の場合、領国と城下町の統治に際して、徳治の考え方が採用され、古来の名所である和歌の浦において景観保全が図られるとともに“開かれた庭園”としての整備（公園的整備）が行われたのは、その先駆と位置付けられる。江戸における上野（寛永寺・不忍池）、御殿山、飛鳥山などの整備には、和歌の浦をモデルにした可能性を考えることができる。３）近代以降のツーリズムの成立と展開は、古代から近世における名所の生成と変容過程とは異質な様相を示すもので、コスモロジカルな磁場で成立したシンボリズムから遊離した開発と観光地化を推し進めることとなった。“新名所”が出現する一方で従来の名所が消滅することにもなる。４）近代以降の名所の生成と変容過程は、名所の消滅を含む新たな様相を示すことになるが、こうした状況への反射的対応として歴史的景観あるいは歴史的環境の保全と再生が意識化されることになり、民衆にも開放された公共的文化空間としての名所の存在が、明治初期に始まる公園化の動向と合わせて、歴史的に再評価、再認識されるようになる。５）和歌の浦は、以上のような古代から近世、更には近代以降における名所の生成と変容を示す典型例と考えられ、和歌の浦をケースとする調査研究は、名所の存立意義とそこにおける景観保全及び開発のあり方を検討する際に、極めて重要な戦略的意義を有する。
