1. Identification of drought-tolerant ahp and arr high-order mutants. Ahp and arr multiple mutants were selected for drought tolerance assay based on their growth rate under normal conditions. Results showed that several ahp and arr high-order mutants were drought-tolerant, suggesting that these AHP and ARR genes may be involved in the regulation of drought response.2. Detailed tolerance assay of lower-order ahp and arr mutants. Examined degree of drought tolerance of ahp and arr lower-order, including single mutants, to study whether the selected AHPs and ARRs redundantly regulate drought response. Results showed that several AHP and ARR genes appear to redundantly regulate drought response, and few of them could act alone, as individual loss-of-function of these genes resulted in sensitivity to drought.3. Identification of AHP and ARR genes that regulate drought response and/or growth. Several AHP and ARR genes in single or double mutants that regulate drought response but not plant growth were identified. However, their higher-order mutations affected both plant drought response and growth. Results suggest that drought response can be affected by a single AHP or ARR; however, growth is controlled by more than two AHP or two ARR genes.
