项目摘要

本年度は、認識的二次元主義の基盤となる、言葉の意味は心的状態によって決定されるという意味論的内在主義を、言語哲学的・言語学的観点から研究した。意味論的内在主義によれば、第一に、意味論とは言葉と世界の関係を明らかにする研究ではなく、言葉と言葉の関係、例えば意味の合成性や文と文の間の含意関係などを研究する分野であり、第二に、意味は心／脳の働きによって説明可能である。本年度は特に、言語哲学の分野だけでなく、ノーム・チョムスキーら言語学者による意味論的内在主義の研究に着目しつつ、言葉と対象の間の関係である指示の概念や、意味の社会性の検討を行った。研究発表「クリプキ以降の指示の概念の比較検討」では、チョムスキーら言語学者による意味論的内在主義の議論と、直接指示への強力な反証を提示したポール・サントリオの議論を手掛かりに、言葉の意味はその指示対象に尽きるという立場の代表的理論である直接指示の理論を批判的に検討し、指示を語用論に位置づけ直すことを提案した。研究発表「意味の所在：意味論的内在主義と外在主義の論争」では、指示の概念の検討に加えて、意味は個人の頭の中にはなく、社会的に決定されているとする社会的外在主義に対する応答を試みた。社会的外在主義によれば、意味は専門家集団によって決定されており、個々の話者の意味理解は意味論の研究対象ではない。社会的外在主義に対して本研究発表では、言語の習得はほとんどの場合非専門家集団の間でなされ、それに基づいて意味理解が形成されるという点を社会的外在主義は捉えられていないと指摘し、個々の話者が理解する意味を意味論は捨象すべきでないと論じた。これまでの研究を踏まえ、研究発表「意味論的内在主義と外在主義的直観の調停」では、意味論的内在主義の立場から、指示を語用論に位置け、意味の社会性を社会的外在主義とは異なる仕方で説明できることを示す。
