项目摘要

本研究の目的は、1930年代の福建省の政治的変化を踏まえながら、シンガポール福建人が郷土との間に有した利害関係に留意して、彼等と中国の関係を捉え直すことにある。28年度は、当初の計画に基づき、南京国民政府の実施した教育政策に着目し、教育政策の各地域での進展により、華僑がどのような影響を受けたのかを、シンガポール福建人の陳嘉庚（1874-1961）を事例として分析した。分析の概要と成果は、次のとおりである。陳嘉庚は、シンガポールにて大半を過ごすものの、出生地の福建省集美や廈門に多数の学校を設立し、教育事業を展開していた。福建省では、南京国民政府期に中央政府からの統制が強化され、教育機構の統一的管理が目指された。この背景には、教育を通して国家の復興と富強を図ることで、戦時に対応しようとする狙いも存在していた。このように管理を強化する政府側の動向に対し、陳嘉庚は福建省政府や教育部、南京国民政府に対して批判をし、陳嘉庚と政府側との間では摩擦が拡大していった。陳嘉庚が政府側を批判した背景には、陳嘉庚が教育事業を通して有していた、社会における政治的基盤や権力を固守する目的があったことが見て取れた。従来の陳嘉庚に関する研究では、陳嘉庚の教育事業の動機として、愛国的、愛郷的であることが挙げられてきた。しかし、本研究からは、自己の利権を確保するために、政府側と矛盾を蓄積し、対立していく陳嘉庚像が提示できた。1930年代には、日中関係の緊迫化に伴い、華僑による抗日運動が見られ、このことを主要な理由として、華僑は中国に対して愛国的であるという理解が、これまでは形成されてきた。しかし上記の研究から得られた陳嘉庚像は、華僑を愛国的であると捉える単一的な視点では理解することのできないものである。1930年代の華僑と中国の関係を、多角的に理解しなおす必要性があることを、本研究では主張することができた。
