项目摘要

南東マヤ地域における中心都市コパンを取り巻く地方センターのモザイク状石造彫刻（以後、モザイク石彫と呼ぶ）が、当時の古代マヤ社会とどの様な関係にあるのかを明らかにするために、データを収集し、分析することを主な作業とした。昨年から引き続き基礎データを得るために、コパン遺跡周縁の地方センター20遺跡からのモザイク石彫約400点の写真撮影、重量計測、大きさ等の計測作業を中心に行い、主要データの大半を収集する事ができた。残念ながら計画していた発掘調査と現地での発表会は、現地協力機関の人手不足などから、実行は困難と判断し、断念した。今までホンジュラス共和国内における地方センターのモザイク石彫の詳細データ（形状、大きさ、重量、由来・出土遺跡など）は、発掘や遺跡踏査等の調査で確認されたもの以外は、収集されてから30数年という月日が経過する中で多くが混乱していた。しかし、自身が現地で当時の調査者の手書きノートや写真資料を収集し、当時の関係者からの聞き取り調査で得た情報を再検討した事によって、由来遺跡が不確かであった多くのモザイク石彫に、正確な情報を付与すると共に、新たな計測データも加える事ができた。つまり、研究資料として耐え得る状態にできたことは、モザイク石彫を研究資料とし得る考古学、図像学、建築学の分野でも非常に意義がある活動となったと考えられる。得られたデータの分析から、同一建造物内の主要な同一モチーフであっても、彫刻の幅や彫の深さなどから、少なくとも2人以上の石工によって彫られた可能性があることが分かった。モザイク石彫研究では、彫刻技法の研究は殆どされておらず、石工の特徴（クセ）から人数を導き出せたことは、とても重要な発見と言える。

The research data and the status of the stone carving research data are very important in archaeology, iconography and architecture. For example, if the stone carving is more than 2 people, the stone carving is more likely to be divided into two parts. The study of stone carving and carving techniques is very important.
