本研究の目的は、欧米でチェンバロ復興の中心的な役割を担ったポーランド人鍵盤奏者、ワンダ・ランドフスカ（1879～1959年）の著書・手記・書簡の調査をもとに、古楽演奏の歴史的「真正性」をめぐって彼女が何を書き残したのか、その語りが20世紀初頭から中葉にかけてどのような変化をみせるのかを考察することにある。検証対象に据えた資料の大部分は米国議会図書館音楽部門に保管されているため、本年度は12月より3ヶ月間、ワシントンに滞在して前年度の調査を継続するかたちで研究を進めた。なかでも、重点的に検証したのは（1）1909年に出版されたランドフスカ著『古楽 Musique ancienne』とこれに関連する雑誌記事、（2）彼女が1930～50年代に『古楽』改訂版の刊行を夢みて演奏解釈に関する自身の考えを書き溜めた手記、（3）これらをもとに弟子のD. レストウがランドフスカの死後、彼女の生前の願いを叶えるために編纂・英訳した『ランドフスカ音楽論集 Landowska on Music』（1964年刊行）の草稿である。調査の結果、演奏解釈において客観的な態度を打ちだす流れを批判することこそが、1930年代後半にランドフスカが『古楽』の改訂を計画する動機となった可能性が浮かびあがった。彼女はそもそも『古楽』初版の段階では演奏における客観性や歴史的な真正性を標榜することによってチェンバロ演奏の意義を啓蒙していた。このような主義主張の書き換えが必要になったのも、彼女が批判の対象とした、あるいは彼女を批判の対象とした演奏家が約半世紀のあいだに入れ替わったためであることは、彼女の手記や書簡の内容に鑑みても明らかである。今後の研究では、ランドフスカが客観主義と認識した潮流の内実を、手記のなかで言及される演奏家の実態と共に検証し、そのうえで彼女の残した言葉をとらえなおすことが求められる。
