本年度は主に、マーク・トウェイン中後期作品における米南部・奴隷制表象ならびに先住民表象について研究を行った。学会活動については、日本アメリカ文学会関西支部にて、研究発表「『大昔の怨み』をめぐって――Mark Twain, “The Facts Concerning the Recent Carnival of Crime in Connecticut”における自伝的構築の諸相とダコタ戦争1862」を行った。同発表では、自伝的語り手と嗜虐的「小人」として顕在化したその「良心」の相克を主題化する同作品における奴隷制表象ならびに先住民戦争への黙説的言及について検討した。また、日本マーク・トウェイン協会発行『マーク・トウェイン――研究と批評』16号（2017）に論文翻訳、メアリー・A・ナイトン「トウェイン『ジャンヌ・ダルクについての個人的回想』に秘められた＜声＞に耳をそばだてること」が掲載された。米国にて在外研究を開始し、現在に至るまで、カリフォルニア大学バークレー校Mark Twain Project客員研究員として文献調査研究を行っている（招聘スポンサー: Robert H. Hirst博士）。今夏はニューヨーク州エルマイラ大学にて開催される第8回国際マーク・トウェイン学会（隔4年開催）にて研究発表を行う。発表プロポーザルは2017年3月、Center for Mark Twain Studies学会開催コミッティによって採択された。また同月、米国ITO Foundation USA FUTI Scholarship Award 2017およびRenne B. Fisher Foundation Grant Awardを授与された。
