平成２８年度までに全ての章のための基礎調査を行ない書籍の執筆を開始した。そこで平成２９年度は、これまでの調査に基づき、全体の流れや章構成、そこで扱っている内容を改めて検証し直した。具体的には所内の研究会、国際学会での発表、海外美術館で学芸員とのワークショップなどを通して知見者の意見をもらった。また、書籍内で重要なテーマとなるアジア地域内での文化交流や環境問題をテーマとしたアートに関して、2018年にケンブリッジ・スカラーズ・パブリッシングから出版される『エコ・アート・ヒストリー・イン・アジア』というアンソロジーの 一章として執筆した。この他1989年以降のアジア美術全般の問題を把握するため、４月にソウルで行われた韓国国立近現代美術館とテート・アジア・リサーチセンター（イギリス）とが主催した国際学会にレスポンデントとして出席。テートのウエッブサイト用に“Territories Disrupted: Space”を執筆。また、世界の現代美術の流れを把握するため、ベニス・ビエンナーレ、ドクメンタ、ミュンスター彫刻プロジェクトを視察。この他アートプロデューサーの北川フラム、学芸員の林牧人、画廊経営者の池内務、美術家の白井美穂、卯城竜太、宇治野宗輝、岡崎乾二郎、演劇プロデューサーの高山明らをインタビュー。北アルプス国際芸術祭、横浜トリエンナーレ、札幌国際芸術祭などを視察。これらのことからアジア地域内の交流や、日本特有の美術の発展、また、西欧とは異なる社会や環境問題に対するアプローチが示唆された。ここで得られた成果を、現代韓国美術を研究するジーヒー・キムと連携し、平成３０年にカリフォルニアで開催される国際学会、カレッジ・アーツ・アソシエーションでパネル発表するべく、プロポーザルを共同執筆し、出願した（参加確定）。
