本研究課題は、古代亀茲国の仏教僧院に存在した地域的特色を持つ二つの絵画流派（第一及び第二インド・イラン様式）の壁画図像を、仏教学的コンテクストと歴史学的コンテクストの双方から考察することにより、それぞれの絵画流派によって表象される仏教文化の総体を解明することを目的とする。最終年度は、未出版の壁画図像の研究のために必要となる現地遺構の最新図録の出版時期の遅延に伴い事業の繰越を行ったため、令和元年度まで研究を継続した。北京大学のVignato教授との学際的な共同研究を通して、それぞれの様式の壁画を有する石窟群が、当時クチャに存在した異なる種類の仏教伝統を体現している可能性、またその時系列的変化などが浮かび上がった。その中間成果を平成30年7月にライプツィヒ大学にて行われた国際ワークショップにて発表したところ、本研究成果を更にクチャの仏教写本研究と関連付けて分析することにより、西域の説一切有部教団の諸相を詳らかに出来るという、本分野において革新的な成果に繋がり得る可能性が浮上した。そのため、共同研究に仏教写本の専門家などを新規の共著者として招き、科研費・若手研究「クチャ（亀茲）国の仏教石窟寺院をめぐる美術・考古・文献資料の総合的研究」（令和元年度～令和四年度）にて、より大きな枠組みでの学際的共同研究によって共著をまとめる運びとなった。また、平成30年4月にベルリンのマックスプランク科学史研究所にて行われた国際ワークショップでの議論を通して、亀茲の第一様式壁画との関連の深い敦煌の西魏時代の壁画に見られる星宿図像の典拠経典と、その歴史的背景に関する研究も進展させることが出来た。亀茲と敦煌のインド・イラン様式の壁画図像に焦点を当てた四年間の研究を通して、6世紀前半の西域地域における仏教僧院の状況、そして仏教が媒介した知識と図像の伝播に関する複雑な様相の一端を明らかにすることが出来た。

This research topic is aimed at exploring the characteristics of the regions where the Buddhist monasteries existed in ancient China, and exploring the two painting schools (the first and the second patterns), mural images, and historical images of the Buddhist monasteries. Last year, the study of unpublished murals was necessary, and the study of the latest murals was necessary. Professor Vignato of Peking University and his academic colleagues jointly studied the possibility of the existence of grotto groups, the existence of different types of grotto paintings, and the transformation of time series. In July 1930, the intermediate results of this study were revised to include the results of the international study and the related analysis of all aspects of the western region. "Research on the integration of art, archaeology and literature data"(from the first year of the reign to the fourth year of the reign of the emperor) In April 1930, the Institute of History of Science conducted a series of international discussions on the relationship between Dunhuang frescoes of the Western Wei Dynasty and the background of the history of Dunhuang frescoes. This paper focuses on the study of Dunhuang frescoes in the past four years, and discusses the situation of Buddhist monasteries in the western regions in the first half of the 6th century.
