项目摘要

本研究の目的は，以下の2つの研究課題を心理言語学実験によって明らかにすることであった。（a）第一言語では義務的に形態的数素性を標示しない日本語を第一言語とするEFL学習者にとって，英語の形態的数素性と概念的数素性を結びつけることは可能か。（b）第一言語では義務的に形態的数素性を標示しない日本語を第一言語とするEFL学習者にとって，英語の形態的数素性と文法的数素性を結びつけることは可能か。本研究では，数素性を形態的，文法的，概念的という3つのレイヤーに分類し，形態的なマーカーの有無が文法的・概念的数素性とマッピングされているかを明らかにする2種類の実験を行った。1つ目の実験は，画面上に提示される絵と英文が一致しているかを判断する課題であった。この課題では，英文中の名詞が単数形か複数形かという要因と，絵中のモノの数が単数か複数かという要因を操作した。名詞の数とモノの数の不一致が反応時間の遅れを生むかを分析した。2つ目の課題では，画面上に提示される1語または2語の英語の語数を判断させる課題であった。この課題では，1語であっても複数形の名詞（e.g., cats）や，２語であっても単数形の名詞（e.g., a cat）など，語数と数素性の不一致が反応時間の遅れを生むかを分析した。実験参加者は日本語を第一言語とする英語学習者96名と，英語母語話者32名が参加した。主な結果は次のようにまとめられる。文法的複数性については日本語を第一言語とするEFL学習者にとっても形態的複数性とのマッピングがなされていることが明らかになった。また，概念的複数性と文法的単数性については有標性によって習得が困難である可能性を指摘した。さらに，今後の研究においては有生性という観点も取り入れた研究が行われることによって，数素性のマッピングについてさらなる知見が得られる可能性を示唆した
