项目摘要

本年度はまず巡礼ネットワークに注目し、西インド洋の島々に広がるドゥアニ信仰の動態について調査・研究を行った。8月、仏領レユニオン島と仏領マヨット島にて聞き取り調査を行った。ここで、これらの島々からマダガスカルに巡礼に来る人の特徴として、「自身がマダガスカル人の子孫であると認識する人々」という傾向があることを確認した。また、マダガスカルへの巡礼を終えた人々は、自身の住む島内にもドゥアニ信仰の聖地を建立し、ドゥアニを巡る信仰を伝えていることが明らかとなった。次に9～10月は、主にマダガスカル西部地域を調査した。これまでの先行研究においては、ドゥアニ信仰はドゥアニ同士の「横の繋がり」が希薄で、「信仰の組織化」は見られないとの見解が主流であった。しかし今回の西部地域での調査により、確かに平常時においてはドゥアニ間の積極的な関わりは見られないものの、地域の中心的なドゥアニの大祭（祭祀）を通じて異なるドゥアニ間に横の繋がりが存在することが分かった。すなわち、ドゥアニ信仰においても、祭祀という限定的な状況ではあるが、複数のドゥアニ間の「ゆるやかな組織化・体系化・パンテオン化」の傾向が見られることを明らかにした。これまでの調査研究から、ドゥアニ信仰を実践する人々の宗教は、伝統宗教・キリスト教・イスラム教など多様であり、ドゥアニという場において、多宗教が共生する聖地空間が成立していることを明らかにした。1990年代以降のマダガスカル政府の「王国時代（植民地以前）の伝統の復興」奨励政策や、2001年に「アンブヒマンガの王領地」（伝統宗教やドゥアニの聖地でもある）が「世界文化遺産」に登録されるといった流れの中で、伝統宗教（伝統文化）の国家的な地位の向上が起きた。それに伴って、「伝統文化の一環」としてのドゥアニ信仰の国家的地位も向上するという事象が起こりつつあることが判明した。
