项目摘要

本年度は、前年度に引き続き　1．略字使用の通時的変遷・位相的側面　を明らかにすると共に、2．略字体を巡る字体意識　についても検討を加えた。1．略字の位相差に関しては、「釋」の略として用いられる「尺」及び「釈」の字体を対象として、仏家による仏書・説話等の写本、公家による古記録・文書における使用字体を調査した。その結果、平安・鎌倉時代には仏僧による説話・注釈書等の類で「尺・釈」の使用が見られたのに対して、公家による古記録等ではこうした略字が見られず、明確な位相差を有していた。しかし室町時代に至ると、非仏家の位相でも「釋」字を「尺」で記す略記法が見られるようになり、さらに「釈」字体の使用が拡大したことで、「釈」が位相を問わず用いられる略字となったことを明らかにした。前年度で取り上げた「仏」字体の状況と併せて考察すると、平安・鎌倉時代には大きな隔絶があった仏家・非仏家間の位相差が、室町時代に至って曖昧になりつつあると言える。これらを踏まえ、室町時代中後期（15～16世紀）という時期を、漢字字体史上の劃期と位置づけた。2．略字体に対する字体意識については、『干祿字書』で「並正」とされた、やや特殊な事情を持つ「万（萬）」字体を対象に字書記述の調査を行った。日本の古辞書では鎌倉時代以降、字書の上で「萬・万」を異体と見なすような認識が生じ、室町時代には「勵」等「萬」を含む字種を「万」で省略する字体（「励」等）が現れた。但しこの時点では、和玉篇諸本や易林本節用集等の掲出状況より見て、「万」を「「萬」に対する略字」と見なす意識を読み取ることができない。明確に「万」を「萬」の略字と見なすような認識が見られるようになるのは、近世漢学者らによる研究書である。汎時代的に「異体字」「略字」という判断を直ちに下すべきではなく、「万」を略字とする認識が「励」等よりも後れて発生した可能性を指摘した。
