本研究では、農園芸活動が若年無業者の社会復帰に果たす役割を明らかにするとともに、活動の有効性を評価するための評価枠組みの検討を行った。１活動効果の検証：まず、農園芸活動に参加したひきこもり・ニート患者の言動や主観的評価の結果を整理した。対象者が活動後に記述した感想はテキストマイニングによって分析し頻出後を抽出した。結果として、活動直後にネガティブ感情が緩和されることや、対象者は植物が有する時間性や継続性に強い印象を持つことが示された。また、医師や心理士等の所見から、継続的な農園芸活動への参加は対象者の社会適応や精神的休養にも寄与することが確認された。２活動評価の枠組み検討：実験経済学の手法を用い、対象者の回復過程や対象者が活動で得た効果を活動最終目的に照らし、目的の達成状況とその達成のための方法・手段の妥当性を検討した。結果として、植物栽培に含まれる連続性や継続性が、対象者の活動意欲や外出意欲の向上に寄与していたことや、毎回の自己評価や治療者側の評価により共通認識が生まれたことが適切な段階付けやアプローチへと繋がり、対象者の自己理解・自己受容、就労意欲の喚起や社会適応の実現に結び付いていたことが考えられた。３新たな実験実証：以上の内容を踏まえ、新たに農園芸活動を実践し活動を評価した。結果として、適応障害を有するケースにおいても農園芸活動の有効性が確認された。４支援実績と課題の把握：関連支援機関等を対象に現地調査等を実施した結果、農園芸活動は、ひきこもり・ニート支援の治療的段階、就労体験・訓練の段階、労働の体現段階で導入されていた。昨今では「ソーシャルファーム」等の農業を組み込んだ新たな支援枠組みの検討が進められており、複雑な事象が混在する当該対象領域の問題解決策として、一般就労、福祉的就労の二元化に限定されない「第三の職場」の確立が求められている。
