本年度は、4月17日から3月31日にかけて、米国メリーランド大学カレッジパーク校　政府・政治学部のKastner教授の受入れにより、同大を拠点に米国国立公文書館、米国議会図書館、メリーランド大学プランゲ文庫、同大図書館を中心に第二次世界大戦後の対日賠償要求問題とそれらに関連する文献史料調査を実施した。特に、東京の国立国会図書館にも所蔵がされていない国務省、軍関係機関、国際戦後処理機関における賠償問題、対日占領政策に関連する米国の政府文書を幅広く収集することができた。このように機関横断で幅広い史料を時系列に見ることができたおかげで、米国側の政策決定過程や政策決定に影響を及ぼす諸機関の位置づけなどがより明らかになった。また、米国の政府史料の保存体系の一端やその開示状況を知ることで、同国の歴史に対する認識や史料開示に対する姿勢について理解を深めることができた。どのような史料が恣意的に残されているのかについて自覚的であることは、史料を研究に用いる側にとって非常に重要である。本年度の研究成果として、昨年度及び本年度に収集した史料を援用して、論文一本と研究ノート一本を査読付き学術雑誌に掲載することができた。さらに、2019年10月に開催される米国のAssociation for Asian StudiesのNew York地域会議での報告を現在申請中である。今後も、本年度の在外研究で収集した数多くの文献史料と知見を援用しつつ、引き続き博士論文提出に向けて中華民国の対日賠償要求に関する研究を進めていきたい。
