本年度において，カタクチイワシ亜科魚類の分類学的研究が著しく進展した．特に，インドアイノコイワシ属においてはその飛躍が顕著であり，出版済みの内容としては，香港とベトナム北部から得られた種と台湾北部，フィリピン，およびインドネシア東部ハルマヘラ島から得られた種をそれぞれ，S. continentalisとS. insignusとして新種記載を行った．また，これら2新種の記載に当たり，それぞれに類似した2種，S. chinensisとS. apiensisに関しても再記載を行い，それぞれの形態的特徴が詳らかになったと同時に，S. chinensisに関してはシンタイプに複数種が含まれていたことからレクトタイプ指定を行い，S. apiensisに関しては従来認識されていなかったパラタイプの存在が明らかとなり，各学名の分類学的安定が実現した．また，これらのほかにも，原記載以降報告がなく，その分類学的実態が曖昧であったS. nelsoni, S. multibranchus，およびS. teguhiの3種に関して再記載，分布域の詳細な報告を行い，それぞれの有効性が再確認されたほか，形態学的特徴や，より詳細な分布域が明らかとなった．これらの過程で，本属魚類の種分化形成には，更新世氷河期の海面の変動が大きく関わっていることが示唆されている．投稿中を含む，現在進行中の研究内容としては，インド・太平洋に広く分布する多くのインドアイノコイワシ属魚類各種に関して学名と種の対応関係が大規模に変更することが明らかになりつつある．さらに，形態観察のみならず，遺伝子解析に基づき，各種，各属間の種間関係，属間関係を推定している．派生的な種ほど上顎が矮小化し，体腹縁の稜鱗が減少・消失しており，これらは遊泳生活への適応の結果であることが推定された．これらの成果に関しては随時論文として出版する予定である．
