A series of sequential leaching tests were conducted to investigate the effects of test parameters on As release and the pollution potential leaching index (PPLI). The variability of the water-soluble fractions and PPLI values was sensitive to the test conditions. The use of the PPLI concept for quick estimation of the potential As leachability was supported by the good reproducibility of PPLI results. Enrichment factor (EF) was used to identify the As sources. EF is the ratio of (As/M) in a studied sample to (As/M) in background sample. M is the reference element. Through database investigation, Ti was selected as the reference element. If the As/Ti ratio in a target sample is lower than the value of 0.01, the As is considered as naturally-occurring.
