本研究は当初、「語り得ぬもののパラドクス」と呼ばれる、言葉で表現することができないもの（語り得ぬもの）に言及することで生じるパラドクスについて、その構造を考察しその解決方法を模索することを目的としていた。だが、この研究を発展させ、語り得ぬもののパラドクスだけでなく、それと同型の他のパラドクスについても扱うこととし、その一般的な構造を考察し、一般的な解決方法を模索することにした。語り得ぬもののパラドクスはある種の自己言及性から生じるパラドクス、すなわち「自己言及のパラドクス」と呼ばれるものであると考えられる。自己言及のパラドクスの一般的な構造の提示を試みた既存の研究はいくつかあるものの、それらは「命題論理で表される自己言及のパラドクス（私が『狭義の自己言及のパラドクス』と呼ぶもの）」についての研究であって、語り得ぬもののパラドクスをはじめとする「高階論理に関わっている自己言及のパラドクス（私が『広義の自己言及のパラドクス』と呼ぶもの）」は念頭に置かれていなかった。本研究は、この広義の自己言及のパラドクスの一般的な構造と解決方法を考察したものであった。2017年度には、既存の研究が提示してきた「（狭義の）自己言及のパラドクスの一般構造」は広義の自己言及のパラドクスには当てはまらないことを提示していた。そこで2018年度には、第一に、広義の自己言及のパラドクスの一般構造を提示した。そして第二に、その「広義の自己言及のパラドクスの一般構造」を分析することで、どのような解決方法が可能かをまず列挙した。最後に、それぞれの解決方法について、その解決方法を受け入れるためには、どのような哲学的・論理学的コストが要求されるかを見積もり、どの解決方法が比較的「低コストな」解決方法であるかを考察した。
