项目摘要

国家の経済発展に伴い教育状況も好転すると言われる一方、近年経済成長の著しい新興国では、教育を介した社会格差の拡大が深刻化しつつある。本研究では、近年民政移管を果たし、経済自由化の推進によって急激な経済発展の兆しにあるミャンマー連邦共和国を対象に、国家の社会・経済状態の変化によって階層ごとに修学状況はいかに推移するか、個々人の修学軌跡や修学パターンに着目して分析した。そして、得られた結果に基づき、階層間の教育格差の動向を検討した。研究最終年度である令和元年度は、これまでの研究成果を２本の原著論文として取り纏め、査読付きの国際学術雑誌へ投稿し採択された。さらに、それらの研究成果を踏まえて博士学位論文を執筆し、その提出に至った。本研究より明らかになった結果は、以下に示すとおりである。１）初等教育段階においては、下流階層のみ、軍政期の社会・経済が暗転した時期に修学状況は悪化したが、社会・経済が好転し始めた民政移管前後の時期にはその修学状況も改善した。２）中等教育段階においては、下流階層のみ、民政移管以降も修学状況に顕著な改善は見られなかった。３）上記１）および２）の結果、初等教育段階については、学習者を取り巻く社会・経済が暗転した時期に階層間の教育格差も拡大したが、社会・経済が好転し始めた民政移管前後の時期には階層間の教育格差もほぼ解消された。他方、中等教育段階については、下流階層の修学状況に顕著な改善は見られなかったため、階層間の教育格差も縮小しなかった。加えて、大学合格状況（中等教育最終学年）については、軍政から民政にかけて、最終的に上流階層と中流・下流階層間の教育格差はそれぞれ約2倍へ拡大する結果となった。
