项目摘要

本研究は、虎関師錬の思想と宗教的実践を中心に、鎌倉末～南北朝期の禅宗に着目し、禅宗と顕密仏教との思想論争、仏事法会における顕密僧と禅僧の競合について総合的な考察を試みる。最終年度は、補助的な資料調査・史実分析を行いつつ、論文執筆や研究報告に努めた。鎌倉末～南北朝時代は、日本だけでなく東アジア世界で、禅宗と顕密仏教・教宗との間で激しい競合が繰り広げられていた。その背景の下に、正統性と優越性を主張しようとした禅宗が思想論争と仏事法会を通じて、顕密仏事と顕密教学を相対化する試みを行った。拙稿「中国の台禅論争と虎関師錬」では、虎関の思想と著作を素材にして、『済北集』『仏語心論』を中心に南北朝期における禅宗と顕密仏教・教宗との思想論争を検討している。虎関は『済北集』において南宋の天台史籍を強く批判し、その価値を否定しており、宋代禅宗の歴史叙述を支持した。一方、虎関は天台宗の代表的な学説である五時教判を否定し、禅宗を正嫡とする立場をもって教宗や顕密仏教を批判した。拙稿①「南北朝期における幕府の鎮魂仏事と五山禅林」では、幕府の鎮魂仏事を中心に室町幕府の禅宗政策の展開に関する検討を行った。内乱の拡大によって追善・鎮魂仏事の重要性が徐々に高まったことで、戦時中・戦後に重要となった公的な鎮魂仏事つまり無縁の戦死者への祭祀である国家的仏事に禅宗が参入し、国家祈祷の一角を担うようになり、顕密祈祷を補完する立場になった。拙稿②「「西番帝師」与「亡国先兆」―日本康永四年山門嗷訴叙述中的宋元佛教」、③「再論日本禅宗成立史上的十四世紀」では、仏事法会と思想における顕密僧と禅僧の競合と、『太平記』における大元帝師パクパに関する記述に着目している。「崇教抑禅」の状況を意識していた『太平記』の記述は元代仏教の実態を正確に描くものではなく、「真言師」パクパが南宋の仏教を圧勝したことを意図的に描出しようとした。

"Worship and suppression of Zen" is a correct description of the situation of "Taiping Ji" in Yuan Dynasty, and "Zhenshi" is a description of "Worship and suppression of Zen" in Southern Song Dynasty.
