本研究は18世紀フランスにおける政治文化と感情の関わりを、演劇作品における涙の表象ならびにパリの劇場での上演時の俳優・観客による涙の実践に注目して解明することを狙いとして出発した。しかし最新の研究の状況ならびに現地調査の結果判明した史料の残存状況に鑑みて、初年次にアプローチの修正を行い、人間と動物の関係、とりわけ愛玩動物、なかでも猫との関係に焦点を当て、感情史の研究を継続した。本年度もフランス社会科学高等研究院のアントワーヌ・リルティ教授に研究指導を仰ぎながら、フランス国立図書館での史料調査を継続した。自然誌に関してはラテン語の史料を取り込みつつ、18世紀末より増加する定期刊行物を整理しながら通覧する作業を開始した。その結果1795年頃から1800年頃にかけて疫病が発生し、これを受けて獣医学者の一部が猫の病気の研究を開始したことが判明した。これを手がかりにヴァルドマルヌ県立文書館所蔵のアルフォール獣医学校の手稿を閲覧し収集した。文学系の史料については小話や感傷小説をコーパスに組み込んで可能な限り網羅的な表象の調査を開始した。グラフィニ夫人『アゼロル姫』など猫に対する愛玩的態度に光を当てる著作や、バキュラール・ダルノ『ジュリ』のように犬と猫の感情的な性向を対比的に論じる著作などが得られた。エゴドキュメントに関しては、オンライン目録を活用した体系的な調査を開始した。これらのいずれにおいても、初年次に立てた仮説をもとに、コーパスを広げることで分析と論証を精緻化する作業を継続中である。新たな史料群の探索としては、第一に、愛玩実践を相対化するため、猫の肉・毛皮の消費を語る史料の調査を始めた。第二に、17世紀末に出現し18世紀以後増加する、「愛猫文学」と呼ぶべき愛好家向けのテクストを収集し分析している。最後に、美術史家の助言をうけつつ図像資料を研究に取り込む作業も開始した。
