项目摘要

本研究の目的は、ウガンダ共和国ブウィンディ原生国立公園におけるマウンテンゴリラの住民参加型保全とエコツーリズムの持続可能性に関して、人とゴリラ双方の視点から総合的に理解を深め、ゴリラの保全とエコツーリズムの持続的な発展に貢献することである。この目的を達成するために、2020年度は以下の研究活動を行った。1. ゴリラによる作物被害に対する地域住民の認識とゴリラの作物被害の軽減を目指して20年以上活動を継続している住民参加型プログラムの現状についての論文の原稿を改稿した。2. 過去2年間にウガンダで採取したゴリラの新鮮な糞を用いて、糞中グルココルチコイド代謝物の濃度（ゴリラのストレスの指標）を酵素免疫測定法により測定した。この糞中グルココルチコイド代謝物濃度と、社会的、生態的、そして観光に関する要因との関係をベイズ階層モデリングにより分析した。人に慣れた群れでも過剰な観光活動によってストレスが一時的に増加する可能性が示唆された。その他の結果も合わせて論文の原稿を執筆し、投稿準備を進めた。3. ゴリラ観光では人とゴリラの間で病気が感染する可能性が高いため、人とゴリラは7m以上の距離を保つことがルールで定められている。しかし、ゴリラ観光に関するYouTube動画の内容を分析したところ、人とゴリラが過度に接近する動画が多く存在した。さらに、過度な接近があった動画は視聴者からより多くの反応（視聴回数や高評価数）を得ていたものが多く、人とゴリラの過度な接近映像はより多くの人の興味を惹く可能性が示唆された。本研究は2020年5月に国際誌PLOS ONEに掲載された。4. 観光客の期待と満足度に影響を与える要因と観光マネージメントの課題を明らかにするため、2019年度に現地調査をおこなった。2020年度はこの調査で得られたデータの解析を進め、論文の投稿準備を進めた。
