项目摘要

本年度は、大西洋規模の生産・交換・消費の流れに組み込まれる南フランスで、経済構造の再編成がいかに進み、商人はいかに食料供給を担ったのか、昨年度調査を行った地中海側のラングドック地方に加え、大西洋側のアキテーヌ地方についても、その実態を解明しようとした。また、交易を通した諸地域の一体化と人の移動によって、港町ではどのような社会関係が築かれたのかを検討し、大西洋貿易の時代の都市の経済と統治の変容を考察することを、最終的な目標とした。この課題の遂行を通して、以下のような諸点を明らかにすることができた。（1）17世紀にフランスのアメリカ植民地が建設される時期に、アキテーヌ地方でも経済構造の再編成が進んだ。まず、アメリカ植民地と北ヨーロッパを主な販路として、輸出用ワインの生産が急速に拡大した。また、「新大陸」からの新しい農作物トウモロコシはアキテーヌ地方に広く導入されると、ボルドーの後背地に穀倉地帯が形成され、余剰穀物が不足する周辺地域、イベリア半島、アメリカ植民地にも輸出された。ボルドーからの食料供給に支えられて、アンティル諸島はプランテーションにおける砂糖やコーヒーなどの熱帯産品の生産に特化していった。（2）大西洋の世界交易を通した諸地域の一体化と人の移動は、南フランスの港を中心に、人々の社会関係を変容させていった。大西洋の港ボルドーでは、貿易商人と法服貴族が融合して富裕な新エリート層を形成するが、大部分は貧しい職人や労働者であり、また、異教徒の大規模な共同体もあり、少数の有色人もいた。ボルドーの成長は格差を広げながら展開し、街区の社会的分離はそれを浮き彫りにした。その一方で、地中海の港ナルボンヌは、新エリートがあまり育たず、貧しい職人や労働者も抱えていた。異教徒の共同体はなく、有色人はほとんどみられなかった。停滞するナルボンヌでは、街区での社会的分離は極端ではなかった。
