项目摘要

本年度も引き続き礼拝の対象となる彫刻・工芸等の美術作品の素材に注目しながら、聖性を獲得する過程とその心性を明らかとすることを目的とした調査・研究をおこなった。当初の研究計画では昨年度が本研究課題の補助事業の最終年度の予定であったが、新型コロナウィルスによる感染症の拡大とその防止を目的とした施策等のために調査を目的とした出張が制限されるなど研究活動が著しく制限されたため、本年度へ繰り越しを行ったところである。本年度はこれまでの状況からはいくぶん改善が見られたものの、いまだ十全な研究活動を行うための基盤が整ってはいない。そこで、本年度は調査対象となる作品の所蔵者や管理機関の負担を考慮して、美術館・博物館等の展覧会等に出品・公開された作品を主たる調査対象として調査・研究を行うにとどめた。また、2022年9月に研究代表者が所属研究機関を変更したこともあり、本年度下半期の本研究課題に関する調査・研究活動はやや停滞することとなった。こうした状況に鑑みて、本年度予定していた調査の一部および研究成果の取りまとめ等については来年度へ再度先送りすることとした。本年度は作品の素材調査等も困難が予想されたことから、上記の通り展覧会出品作などを中心として素材の転用という観点から故人の生前に愛用した品の転用品などに注目しながら作例の蓄積をはかった。具体的には寺院の幡、打敷や袈裟など、故人が生前愛用した衣類を追善供養のために供養具・僧具に転用した作例や、故人直筆の手紙等を料紙として写経を行った消息経と呼ばれる作例などである。
