The main goals of the strategic research initiative "V3D2" (the German acronym for "Distributed Processing and Dissemination of Digital Documents") are new techniques and approaches to create and to use electronic information for/in Digital Libraries. That ranges from creating, structuring, editing and annotating multimedia documents to storing, retrieving and transferring them from a Digital Library to all sorts of users.Research projects in the following research areas are currently funded: -- Management and exchange of digital documents-- Creation, compression and data transmission-- Multimedia teaching and learning systems-- Joint research with libraries-- New applications and new aspects of use.
