本研究は、アメリカ南部における移民越境の歴史と同化の可能性について研究し、文学における移民表象、更に文化的にメインストリームカルチャーで言及されることの少ないマイノリティ表象を考察するものである。本研究は前年度に引き続き、コロナ禍によって渡米することができなかったため、研究期間が更に一年延長された。コロナ禍により、本年度も現地に赴いて研究を行うことこそできなかったものの、オンラインによるさまざまな国際学会やイベントに積極的に参加することにより、海外の南部研究における研究動向（アメリカ国内、特に南部、そしてヨーロッパ）と、国内における研究動向に関する知見を得た。本研究5年目に入った2022年度は主に次の３つの方向性でアメリカ南部におけるコミュニティ構築に関して時代背景を考慮しながら研究を行った。１）朝鮮戦争後における韓国系移民ディアスポラと冷戦期のアメリカにおけるアジア系排除の構造について、２）ベトナム戦争前後におけるベトナム系難民の南部（特にニューオーリンズ）における同化と共存の可能性について、そして、３）南部におけるLGBTQ+コミュニティにおけるネットワーク構築について、という観点から文化的他者の文学的表象に関する考察を行った。１）に関しては、2021年2月に開催された多民族国際学会において、オンラインで発表した。その原稿をまとめたものが国際学会のモノグラフに論文として掲載され、2022年10月に発行された。Susan Choiの_The Foreign Student_における1950年代のアメリカにおけるゼノフォビア（外国人嫌悪）と冷戦との関係性をアジア系移民受容の歴史的観点から考察し、まとめることができたことは大きな収穫であった。
