项目摘要

コロナの状況のため、海外及び沖縄への調査が実施できず、実質的に研究は断念しなければならなくなった。こういった事情のため、もともとあった計画以外で、つまり、日本国内研究でそれに代わる対象を探し、やっと、天草研究がそれに代わる対象になりえると考えられた。ここまで達するのに２０２２年度までかかり、それから、天草の調査に着手することになった。まず、天草はこれまで調査した壱岐、平戸同様に同年齢集団が現存している。文化的に同じ場所になっているといえる。東シナ海域における同年齢集団の意味については拙著などで発表しており、基層文化に東シナ海域につながる文化があることが分かる。この確認をまず調査で行い、次に、同年齢集団同様お堂の文化について詳しく調べた。対象地域は富岡であり、ここのお堂は現存してはいるが、高度経済成長期に通っていた女性を中心とした人々が来なくなり、お堂がなくなり、今ではお堂ではなく、お地蔵様に変わっている。しかしながら、お堂で行われていた無縁仏供養は今でも引き継がれており、特に、天草島原の乱の無縁についても供養されている。富岡のみならず、天草一帯の墓の特徴として、個人墓のなかに無縁仏が祀られていることも判明した。通常、無縁墓は、墓地の入り口あたりにあり、まずは、無縁墓に参ってから自分の先祖等の墓に参るのがしきたりになっているが、ここでは、これに加えて、個人墓のなかに無縁墓があり、これは無縁仏供養が重視されてきた証拠になると考えられる。これら以外の成果には、大矢野のお堂の供養が島原天草の乱で死んだ人々であることなどが付け加わる。
