18世紀、特に18世紀初頭のイギリスにおける植民地通商政策および資源調達政策を奨励金制度という枠組みから検討している。これは貿易独占権を含めた特許を特定の会社に付与することで通商の振興を図った17世紀における重商主義的政策から、貿易への自由な参入を促し、奨励金を交付することでその参入者を増加させていくという18世紀の重商主義的な政策への転換を念頭に置いたものである。2022年度については、イギリス経済史の中でもまだ研究対象として十分な検討がなされていない奨励金制度についての研究の深化を図った。本来の実施計画では17世紀末から18世紀初頭にかけて展開された「特許会社設立」か「奨励金制度」かという議論を取り扱う予定であったが、2020年度から続く新型コロナウイルス感染症流行に伴い、2022年中まで海外での資料調査ができなかったことで、国内にて検討可能な研究対象に焦点を切り替えたという背景がある。具体的には、1705年に制定された海軍資材法という法律によって輸入奨励金制度の導入によって貿易への参入障壁が低減したことが商人の経済活動にどのような影響を与えたかということを、18世紀前半のイギリス海軍と商人との物資納入契約を事例として検討した。この研究成果については論文にまとめ、現在国内査読雑誌にて審査中である。また、上記研究と並行し、17世紀から18世紀にかけての植民地における土地利用が奨励金制度の導入によってどのような影響を受けたかという点について、麻・亜麻の生産に焦点を当てた研究をしている。これについては、2023年5月に名古屋大学にて実施される日本西洋史学会における自由論題報告でその一端を公開することになっている。
