本研究の目的は、戦後沖縄史を「親米派」に着目して再検討することにある。昨年度と同様、今年度も引き続き、夏季と冬季の長期休暇の時期を利用し、沖縄県公文書館や国立国会図書館本館の憲政資料室において、USCAR関連資料、アメリカ占領期の「日留」・「米留」の二つの留学制度ならびに留学生の選考に関する資料、留学生の体験記や第三者による図書や雑誌論文などの収集を行った。今年度はまた、新型コロナウイルスの影響により、延期していたアメリカでの資料調査を再開した。具体的には今年の１月、ハワイ大学において、ダニエル・K・イノウエ文書やハワイ大学に在籍していた沖縄系二世、三世の手記や論文、邦字新聞や地元紙の沖縄関連報道に関する資料を収集し、沖縄占領期におけるハワイと沖縄の両者の文化交流についての調査を行った。今回の資料調査ではまた、ハワイ大学のアーキビストとの情報交換を通じて、ハワイ大学だけでなく、ハワイの沖縄県人会が所蔵する資料調査も行うことが可能となった。今後もハワイ大学のアーキビストとの交流を通じて、沖縄の米国占領統治をめぐるハワイの沖縄コミュニティの動向に関する調査を継続する予定である。なお、今回の資料調査の成果は、2023年度の国際政治学会にて、公表する予定である。今年度もまた、これまでの資料調査を元にした書籍を刊行する準備を進めており、成果の一部は2024年度に刊行される論文集の中で、公表されることになっている。
