本研究は、消化器疾患と生活習慣病リスクとの連関を解明する住民コホート研究である。萎縮性胃炎およびHP感染の有病率、17年の追跡における発生率、変化率を推定し自然経過を明らかにする。次にコホート追跡時のデータから得られた胃癌・大腸癌、動脈硬化関連疾患、骨粗鬆症など生活習慣病の発生および要介護に及ぼすHP感染・萎縮性胃炎の影響とその強さを解明する。これらを統合して、血清PG値およびHP抗体価から診断できるHP感染・萎縮性胃炎の長期予後を把握し、胃癌のリスク診断に用いられる血清学的診断と生活習慣病の発生リスクおよび要介護移行との連関を解明し、高齢者の健康管理に資するエビデンスを構築することを目的とする。研究代表者と研究分担者は、高齢者のQOLの維持および要介護予防を目的として2005年から定期的に追跡調査を実施している大規模住民コホート研究Research on Osteoarthritis/osteoporosis Against Disability (ROAD)において、本年度も和歌山県の山村コホートで17年目（第6回）の住民健診を実施し、調査時に同意の得られた参加者から、問診票およびインタビューによる既往歴、食生活、身体活動、飲酒・喫煙、服薬、膝痛・腰痛、転倒発生状況、ADL・QOL、要介護移行有無の確認などの情報収集を行い、また身体・運動検査、Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA; Hologic Discovery)による骨密度検査、股関節・脊椎前後像などの骨X線検査、インピーダンス法 (Tanita MC-190) による四肢筋量測定、握力測定、歩行速度測定、動脈硬化の指標としてABI測定を実施した。加えて、採血を施行し、採取した血漿を冷凍保存した。収集した各情報は整理を行いデータベースの作成作業を実施した。
