项目摘要

本研究は、従来のナショナルな言説の中で周縁化されてきた社会集団の美術を「境界のモダニズム」と名付け、越境的な比較美術史の見地から、沖縄と日系アメリカ人の美術を中心にその革新性と政治性を論じることを目的とする。令和4年度は、美術史学会全国大会において開催された「移住者たちの美術」というシンポジウムに登壇し、「第二次世界大変後の美術におけるディアスポラの諸相」という発表を行って沖縄と日系アメリカ人の美術の実践を紹介した。また、8月から9月にかけてロサンジェルスとニューヨークに出張し、日系アメリカ人博物館やホイットニー美術館などで調査を行った。公開した研究成果としてはまず、2022年4月にイギリスのブルームズベリー社から刊行された『Pop Art and Beyond: Gender, Race, and Class in the Global Sixties』という論文集に出版した「Tom Max's "Okinawan Inferno": Reversion and After」が挙げられる。また9月に刊行された『鹿島美術研究』に「「境界の戦後美術」研究：真喜志勉とロジャー・シモムラを中心に」を発表し、12月にイギリスのセインズベリー日本芸術研究所から刊行された『Okinawan Art in its Regional Context: Historical and Contemporary Practice』という論集には編者の一人として参加するとともに、論考も寄稿した。さらに2023年3月に三元社から出版された『レアリスム再考：諸芸術における〈現実〉概念の交叉と横断』に「沖縄のリアリズム：真喜志勉の《大日本帝国復帰記念》展、1972年」を出版した。
