科学技術社会論の研究分野において、科学技術と社会の関係性についてこれまで研究蓄積が行われてきたが、老年期の人々と科学技術との関係やジェロンテクノロジー（高齢者のための生活自立支援技術の研究：特に医療・福祉用ロボット）を対象とした研究蓄積は充分なされてこなかった。科学技術社会論分野においては、社会に実装される段階以前の研究開発段階にある萌芽的な科学技術（emerging technology）に対して、できるだけ早い段階において市民などの非専門家が関与することで、市民的価値など多様な価値観を当該科学技術に反映させる必要性がアップストリーム・エンゲージメントとして指摘されている。このような背景のもと、本研究全体としては、科学技術社会論におけるアップストリーム・エンゲージメントの研究蓄積を基盤とし、ジェロンテクノロジーに着目することで、老年期の人々とジェロンテクノロジー研究開発者がどのようにジェロンテクノロジーを認識し、どのような技術の開発が望まれているのかについて明らかにすることを目的とする。本年度においては、高齢者の科学技術への認識を広く探るための、質問紙を用いた量的調査のための事前準備を行った。調査票の質問内容は、社会・経済的属性、一般的な科学技術への信頼度や親和性、科学技術への市民参加の意思、死生観、QOL、ジェロンテクノロジーへの認識などを想定している。また、ジェロンテクノロジー関連項目としては、ジェロンテクノロジーについての認識・使用経験、医療・福祉ロボットへの認識、ロボットへの愛着、ロボットとの距離感、ロボットとの恊働、ロボット研究への期待などを想定している。このような内容をもとに質問項目案を策定した。また、関連する文献などについても調査することで、研究全体を遂行する上での地盤を築いた。
