项目摘要

「研究の概要」：極西アイルランドの精神の地下水脈には一四○○年にも亘り静かに脈打つ一つの思考がある。水辺の思考。その起源は六世半、全土の水辺で一斉に開花した各修道院が水路のネットワークによって一つに結ばれ発生をみた学術都市群共同体にある。その特徴は大陸ヨーロッパの基盤、陸路の思考=直線・合理的なユークリッド原理に反定立する水路の思考=円環・非合理的なフラクタル原理にある―大西洋沿岸の海岸線のように、蛇行を繰り返す思考の流れが内部に無数の渦巻きを形作りながら一本の線で結ばれる。『ケルズの書』に表れる芸術様式、大陸のマニエリスムとも一線を画す極西のケルト固有の水辺のマニエリスムの誕生。その思考様式はW. B.イェイツにより見出され、文芸復興運動の基軸に据えられ復権をみた。その後、彼の影響を受けた現代アイルランド文学を代表する二人の作家、すなわち劇作家J.M.シングと小説家ジェイムズ・ジョイスへと継承されることでアイルランド文学の新潮流を形成していくことになる。「研究の目的」；本研究の目的は以上の命題を検証していくことである。さらに以下の点を捕捉しておく。文学研究における本研究は従来のアイルランド海航路による英・愛蘭間二国間文化交流に偏重される<英文学の中のアイルランド文学研究>の死角、<大西洋文化圏の中のアイルランド>という新しい文学研究の地平を切り拓いていくことにある。「研究実施計画」：以上の研究目的を既に提出した「研究実施計画」に従って、三年間で遂行したいく。
