当該年度の研究実績は以下の3点である。まず、17世紀に流布した旧約聖書『雅歌』の意訳である、George SandysによるA Paraphrase upon the Song of Solomonの政治性を考察した点である。この書籍は、1641年版と1642年版は作品のみが収められていたが、1676年版のA Paraphrase upon the Divine Poemsに収められたテクストではその前にチャールズ1世とその王妃ヘンリエッタ・マリアに捧げられた献呈詩が掲げられている。つまり、この献呈詩により、『雅歌』を国王と王妃を讃えるものとして読むことをうながす一種のパラテクストとして機能していることがわかる。同様の機能は、1648年版のA Paraphrase upon the Divine Poemsにも見られ、内乱期において議会派の優勢が明白な時点にあって、文学テクストが国王と女王を賛美する働きを担っていることを明らかにしている。2点目は、A Paraphrase upon the Song of Solomonを手稿に筆記したものとして、オックスフォード大学ボドリアン図書館所蔵の手稿MS Rael poet 153を調査できたことである。1640年代に作成されたとされるこの手稿には、筆記された作品群に王党派的な特徴が見られることから、国王をソロモン王としてとらえる傾向が1640年代にも見られたことが伺えた。3点目としては、イングランド国王をソロモン王に模した、17世紀の刺繍のコレクションをアシュモリアン博物館で調査できたことである。当時刺繍された『ソロモンの審判』はソロモン王をジェームズ1世、チャールズ1世、チャールズ2世をイメージして作成されたものである。以上3点の調査を進める過程で得た資料を用い、1点の論文の執筆に役立てることができた。
