前年度は研究対象となる安倍能成の著作の繙読を進めながら、安倍の伝記的事項を整理する作業に従事した。その際、安倍と同時代の作家や文化人の著作や日記、高等学校や大学の、早世した同級生たちの日記や書簡も、安倍の伝記的事実と照らし合わせながら読み進めていった。これは、当該の課題「安倍能成の伝記的記述をとおして描く大正昭和の文化と政治の諸相」に対応するために欠かせないことであるが、膨大な作業にもなり、順調に進みつつも、予定よりはかなり遅れているという状況である。安倍能成は学問的業績に関して多くの批判を受けた人物であり、また自らも学者失格の面があることを認めてもいる。これは、現在のような研究制度・研究者養成制度が出来上がりつつあった大正時代後期の状況を鮮やかに映しだしていると思われる。日本ドイツ学会第38回大会（2022年6月25日開催）のシンポジウム「日本におけるドイツ研究の「意義」？」において、最初期のドイツ学研究者としての安倍能成を取りあげ、「安倍能成、ダメ学者と呼ばれて（も）」という題名で研究発表を行なった（後に論文としてまとめ、『ドイツ研究』Nr.57 に掲載）。西洋の文物を扱う学者の意義ということに悩みはじめた「起源」の歴史を、安倍能成の人生航路を辿りつつ記述した。その際、1926（大正15）年３月に新設の京城帝国大学法文学部に赴任した安倍の所信表明とも言える「京城帝国大学に寄する希望」（1927）と、エッセイストに過ぎないと批判された安倍の、一種の釈明文である「随筆を書く心持」（1937）を比較分析した。このように、安倍の伝記的事実、著作を通してその時代の状況を描くという研究方法を今後も模索していきたい。
