本研究は日本に長期在留中の英語を母語とする外国人移住者の言語変容を調査することで変化の方向性を明らかにし、「言語変化の一般原則」を理論構築することを目的とする。来日後長期間にわたって在留する英語母語話者のことばが言語/方言接触によりどのように変化し、それがなぜ起こるのかそのメカニズムを解明する。その上で言語変化を予測できる「言語変化の一般原則」を構築する。本研究の目的を達成するためには英語母語話者が来日した時の言語データと、来日後長期間経過したのちの言語データを比較する必要がある。申請者が2000年に英語母語話者の来日直後に収集した言語データ【第1データ】と、同一話者から一年後に収集した言語データ【第2データ】を比較のために利用する。また来日10年以上経過した英語母語話者複数からも言語データ【第3データ】を収集する。3つのデータを活用することにより各時点の分析結果を実時間で比較することが可能となる。2022年度は日本の英語母語話者コミュニティですでに収集済みの言語データ【第3データ】を一部分析した。日本に長期間住んでいるアメリカ人とイギリス人の英語母語話者同士による自然談話の分析を行い、「所有を表す英語表現」と「義務を表す英語表現」のバリエーションを検証した。【第3データ】の分析結果を【第1データ】、【第2データ】と比較し、言語変化について考察した。

The purpose of this study is to investigate the language changes of English native speakers who have long stayed in Japan, and to establish a theoretical framework for the general principles of language changes. For a long time to come, native speakers of English will remain in contact with each other in speech and dialect. The prediction of speech transformation is based on the general principles of speech transformation. The purpose of this study is to compare the speech quality of native speakers in the future and in the future. The applicant is the first native speaker of the English language in 2000, and the second native speaker of the same language in 2000.
