本研究の目的は、現代英語の三人称複数代名詞they（their, them）の由来について調査・考察することである。特に、時代、ジャンル、方言、古ノルド語への影響の有無などの点で多様な古英語期の散文を資料として、人称代名詞や指示代名詞の使用状況を比較調査し、they型発達の要因や背景を考察する。具体的には、文献の方言差、時代差、ジャンル（歴史書、法文書、宗教書、翻訳・非翻訳等）の観点から選んだ散文テキストについて、校訂本、写本、電子コーパス（Dictionary of Old English Web Corpus）を併用しながら調査を行う。このような研究デザインの中で、今年度はWest Saxon方言後期の諸テキストに注目することとした。当初計画では、Aelfric, Wulfstan, アングロ・サクソン年代記等、広範に調査する予定であったが、時間の関係でアングロ・サクソン年代記を主に扱うこととし、二種の調査を行った。一つは、三人称代名詞、指示代名詞、関係代名詞の三種についての使用状況の調査である。本調査は、A写本 (Cambridge, Corpus Christi College, MS 173)とE写本 (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS. Laud Misc. 636)を取り上げて、それぞれThe Anglo-Saxon Chronicle: A Collaborative Editionを用いて目視で行った。もう一つは古英語の終わりから三人称複数代名詞として出現するheomの使用調査である。こちらについてはDictionary of Old English Corpusを活用して、上記二写本以外の写本も含めて調査を行った。それぞれの調査から、テキスト間の差異などを一定程度見出すことができた。

The purpose of this study is to investigate the origin of modern English three-person plural pronouns they (their, them). A comparative survey of the use of personal pronouns and demonstrative pronouns in the prose of different periods of Old English, the influence of special language, era, language, dialect and ancient language, and the main causes and background of their development. Specific, literature and dialect differences, time differences,(history books, French books, religious books, translation, non-translation, etc.), and selected prose, revised books, written books, electronic books (Dictionary of Old English Web Corpus) are used together for investigation. This year, the West Saxon dialect was studied. The original plan is to conduct two kinds of surveys, namely, Aelfric, Wulfstan, and other surveys. A survey of the use of three pronouns, three personal pronouns, demonstrative pronouns and relative pronouns This survey is written in A (Cambridge, Corpus Christi College, MS 173) and E (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Laud Misc. 636) The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle: A Collaborative Edition is available in Chinese. A survey of the use of heom in Old English The Dictionary of Old English Corpus is used in the investigation. The differences between the survey results and the survey results can be seen to some extent.
