本研究課題の第一の目的は、言語の固定化と概念ネットワークが言語事象を体系的に、また包括的に説明することであるが、まず言語の慣習化（Conventionalization） と定着（Entrenchment）に関わる先行研究をまとめた。具体的には、Schmid, Hans-Jorg (2020) The Dynamics of the Linguistic System: Usage, Conventionalization, and Entrenchment のモデルを分析し、その有用性を分析した。Schmidのモデルでは、慣習化と定着は、後者は特に話者の心の中で知識が継続的に繰り返し組織化されていくことを指すことで区別され、両者は、社会共同体の中で使用される中で強化され、語用論的知識が付加されることが述べられた。また、第二の目的は、時間メタファーと架空移動（fictive motion）表現との関連性を固定化とネットワーク（Diessel, Holger (2019) The Grammar Network: How Linguistic Structure Is Shaped by Language Use, Cambridge University Press, Cambridge.）の観点から説明することであるが、時間メタファーと架空移動表現の事例を現在、収集している。第三の目的は、ジェンダーアイデンティティの観点から英語の人称単数名詞の拡張過程を固定化とネットワークの観点から捉えることであるが、これについては、英語のthey/their/themの単数を表す使用法の歴史的発展を調査している。以上の調査・研究については、「慣習化に関する一考察」という形にまとめることができた。
