研究初年度である2022年度は，先行研究のまとめと調査を実施した。本研究課題に関する先行研究及び研究代表者のこれまでの研究成果を英語でまとめ，編著書"Language Support for Immigrants in Japan: Perspectives from Multicultural Community Building"に著した。また，本研究の対象である，地域日本語教育の体制づくりに取り組んでいる地方公共団体１か所において調査を行った。メールで調査の承諾を得た後に調査日程を調整し，調査を実施する地方公共団体及びインタビュー協力者各個人に依頼書を送付した。調査では，地域日本語教育の体制づくりの一環である地域日本語教室の観察・記録と，当該地域の総括コーディネーター１名及び日本語教育コーディネーター２名へのインタビューを実施した。実践の観察においては，時間，行為者・発話者，行為・動き・発話等，観察者の気づきについて，表形式でフィールドノートとして記録した。インタビューにおいては，開始前に改めてデータの使用目的・範囲・個人情報の保護について説明した上で，同意書に署名をもらった。その後，調査協力者に対し，日本語教育に関する経歴，体制づくりの全体構想と理念，体制構築状況と課題，取り組みの特色，コーディネーターとして重視していること，体制づくりにおける今後の展望等を，半構造化形式で聞き取った。調査終了後間を置かずにフィールドノートの追記・修正等を行い，またインタビューデータは全て文字化し，今後の分析材料として整備した。
