本研究は、インターネットを活用した教育プログラムを通して、日本語話者とアジアの複数の国の学習者とのやり取りを実施し、会話分析研究のうち、マイクロ・レベル分析の手法を用いて、学習者のICの実態を記述・分析することによって、英語によるICの実態と参与者の能力・発達、学習者間の違い等を明らかにするものである。また、この研究を通して、新たなデータ収集及び分析手法を確立する。さらに、開発したIC記述方法の適用が学習支援に効果を発揮することを検証する。現状実施している日本の学校と海外の協定校とのネットワークを拡大し、生徒・学生による異文化交流教育授業の運営体制基盤を強化した。2020年度および2021年度に実施したパイロットプロジェクトの経験を踏まえて、実施手順の標準化や、主として人的資源を中心とした支援体制の安定化をはかった。具体的には、マレーシア、タイ、ベトナム、フィリピン、台湾の関連組織、学校等を訪問し、本研究遂行のための異文化交流教育授業実施に対する協力を求めた。その結果、大幅に協定校のネットワークを拡大でき、今後の運営に対する盤石な基盤を構築できた。本研究が対象としている「ほぼ初めて異文化に触れる」生徒を対象とした場合には、特別な指標を用意してコミュニケーション状況を記述する必要があることがパイロットプロジェクトの経験で明らかになっており、類似の先行研究を当たりつつも、本研究で参考にできる部分を抽出して利用することが求められていた。今までのデータの蓄積に加えて、2022年度までに実施した異文化交流教育授業で得られたデータを対象として、IC記述方法の予備的検討を進めた。
