外国語学習における発音上の問題は上級になっても容易に改善されず、学習動機の低下につながると指摘されている。教育現場で行われる発音学習の問題は、教師による音声提示とフィードバックが目標言語音とのギャップに気づき、内在化するという言語習得プロセスにおいて十分に機能しない点にある。教師に向けられた注意を学習者自身に移行させ、目標言語音の音声的特徴を自分の発音に反映させる努力を積み重ねる過程が必要であると考える。本研究は、学習者による学習過程への能動的な参加が外国語の音声習得に及ぼす肯定的な効果を実証的に検証することを目的とする。学習過程への能動的な参加の観点から、発音学習において自己モニタリングの概念を導入し、それが目標言語音の正確な産出に有効であるかどうかを検証する。本研究の核となる概念である自己モニタリングは、学習におけるメタ認知方略の一つであり、学習プロセスにおいて習慣的に行っていた行動パターンをより望ましいものへと変えていくことを可能にする手法として知られている。本年度は、まず、プログラミング言語を使用して、独自の発音学習タスクを実験に使用するために作成した。このタスクは時間の流れに沿って順番通りにクリックするように設計されており、画面上をクリックすることで画面の切り替え、音声の録音と再生、データの収集が可能である。次に、実験環境と手順を確認し、タスクデザインの有効性を検討するために予備実験を実施した。最後に、被験者を募集して本実験を行い、発音学習タスクの実施前後における被験者データと、被験者データ比較用の母語話者データを合わせて100名以上のデータを収集した。
