仮想現実(VR)とICTを活用した学習はこれからますます進むと考えられている。しかし現状、対面でのコミュニケーション活動との学習効果の相違が明確ではなく、教育プログラムの設計が難しい。例えば、習熟度によるタスク活動の調整ができない。つまり、本格的に実用に導くためには、もちろん技術的発展も必要ではあるが、学術的にその効果を解明する必要がある。そこで、本研究は、VRを利用したタスク活動によるスピーキング力能力の向上を明らかにすることを目的とする。VRには、head-mount display (HMD)を利用することにとって、教育内容に集中することができ、理解が深まるとされている (Piovesan et al., 2012)。タスクのリアリティが増すことで、遠隔でタスクを行っている者とも、違和感なくタスクを遂行することができるとされる。言語学習の側面では、タスクに現実性が加わるとよりタスクを理解しやすく、コミュニケーションを継続させようとし、会話継続のためのストラテジーである質問、意味の確認などの行為が増え、発話量が増えることが推測される。本研究は、VR内でのタスクの真正性がスピーキング活動に与える影響について、言語的な側面から検証する。VR内のコミュニケーションタスクは、従来通り教室にて、疑似的に想定しながら会話練習するのとではどのように学習者の発話に変化があるのかを明らかにする。
