本研究は、日本近世の巨大都市江戸近郊の地帯構造の特質を全体史的に把握しようと試みるものであり、具体的な素材として、江戸南方の荏原郡域における諸村を検討対象とするものである。この主題は、前研究課題（2019~2021年度基盤研究(C)「江戸南部近郊地帯の分節構造-荏原郡六郷領を事例に」を継承するものであり、六郷領の中核にある八幡塚村と近隣地帯に焦点をあて、多摩川下流域にあり、また東海道を初めとする陸路により、江戸や近隣の中小都市域と深い関係を有すその社会=空間構造を、包括的に把握しようとするものである。その初発となる2022年度は、前研究課題がcovid-19パンデミックにより研究期間を1年延長したために、前研究の作業内容とかなり重複するかたちとなった。主な研究実績は以下の様である。①近隣の下沼部村・北川家文書の再調査に着手し、その第１段階としてデジタル写真撮影による史料採取を行った。②同じく近隣の鵜ノ木村に伝存してきた天明家文書の現状記録調査に本格的に着手した。同文書は大田区立郷土博物館所蔵であるが、長期にわたり本格的な調査が行われず、ほぼ未整理の放置状態にあった。この調査に際しては、近代史研究者などとの調査チームを組織し、共同の作業に取り組む中で、鵜ノ木村が分郷を含む複雑な空間構造を有し、これが六郷領の構造的な特質の一つであること、多摩川縁辺部固有の生業ー川辺の開発や砂利採取ーのありようと独特な社会構造、六郷用水を軸とする近隣地帯との広域的な共同関係の特質、天明家の家格や由緒とその背景、などいくつかの多様で重要な論点を抽出した。
