本研究は、18世紀後半の軍隊がどのように男性の経験を形作ったか、男性に関してどのような理想やモデルを醸成したのかを明らかにする。今年度、パンデミックのために数年来制限されていた海外渡航が可能になったことを受けて、夏期に2週間現地での調査を行った。フランスの国防省の文書館でデジタル化されていない手稿文書（将校のメモワールまた将校の年金申請ファイル）を調査しまた隣接する同省の図書館また国立図書館において文献調査を行った。軍事に関する研究を「ジェンダー化」する観点は、近現代史研究においては徐々に顕著になっている。近世に関しては比較的研究が少ないだけに、軍事史の研究成果を渉猟しながら、多様な地平のジェンダー研究者と対話しながら試行錯誤することが必要である。今年は、フランスのジェンダー研究の分野で活発に活動している18世紀研究家ウルリケ・クランプル氏（トゥール大学教授）と氏の専門とされる外国語の学習とマスキュリニティの関係について意見を伺う機会があったが、本研究にとっても有益であった。今年度の下半期は健康上の理由で思うように研究を進められなかったが、来年度の研究の展開につながるような基盤をつくることができた。
