本研究は、動物の中でも歴史的に特に古くから人間と親密な関係を築いてきたイヌ科・ネコ科の動物(家畜イヌとその他イヌ科の動物:オオカミ、キツネなど、ネコ科は野生ネコ、家畜ネコ)に焦点を当て、中エジプトの遺跡から出土したそれらの動物遺体、および博物館資料（試料)を用いて、マクロとミクロの調査を行う。これらの動物の分類上の位置付けや病理を探り、そこからヒトと動物の関係史解明に貢献することを目指す。2022年度はパンデミック後、3年ぶりにフィールドワーク（ゲベル・アシュート遺跡）やサーベイ（ツナ・エル・ゲベル遺跡）を行うことができた。ゲベル・アシュート遺跡では動物遺体のデータ収集を行った。これは来年度以降も継続する。出土したイヌ科の動物骨に関しては研究協力者が幾何学的形態測定を行い、これまで私が行ってきたマクロの骨形態観察と計測と今後合わせて分析できる可能性が広がった。ネコ科の動物骨に関しては、現地で今年度あまり多く調査はできなかった。ツナ・エル・ゲベル遺跡ではイヌ科・ネコ科の動物遺体の遺跡間比較研究が可能かどうかを調べるために地下動物ネクロポリスでサーベイを行ったが、動物遺体はトリが圧倒的に多く、イヌ科、ネコ科の動物骨は表面採集においては見当たらなかった。博物館資料に関しては、ベルリンエジプト博物館とベルリン自然史博物館の資料の見学を行った。ベルリンエジプト博物館では初代館長によって収集され、収蔵庫に保管されている動物ミイラの調査を行い、その中にイヌ科の動物も含まれており記録を行った。ベルリン自然史博物館資料は、イヌ科とネコ科の標本を見学し、ゲノム調査のためにサンプリングを行いたい個体の確定と破壊調査に伴う申請を行った。マクロの調査は来年度以降に行う。
